Rotteveel Vermeer

ROTTEVEEL VERMEER is a Dutch artist duo formed in 2021 by Jochem Rotteveel and Thomas Vermeer, united by a shared passion for color. Coming from contemporary art and fashion backgrounds, they naturally merge their disciplines using vinyl foil, and create on dibond panel—blending painting and sculpture to explore the boundaries of color, material, and space. Their work pays tribute to color masters like Rothko, Mondriaan, Yves Saint Laurent, and Josef Albers, while embracing the experimental spirit of Rauschenberg and Isa Genzken.
By folding flat materials to create volume, they blur the line between two- and three-dimensional space. Instead of physical color blending, they achieve optical effects through light and viewer perception. Their site-specific wall works are dismantled after each show, questioning the need for permanence in art and emphasizing the value of the moment of seeing.
